The EPA, JAA-ATPL Modular Training System The modular route to a commercial license is the most cost effective and practical method for most people.
It entails taking the series of modules listed below; The Private Pilot’s License (PPL) and Night Rating. JAA PPL/ATPL Modular Theoretical Training and written Examinations. The Commercial Pilot’s License (CPL) Modular course. The Instrument Rating (IR) Modular course. The Multi Crew Co-cooperation (MCC) Course.
Why JAA-ATPL Modular Training System? The Modular route is cheaper. Typically the Integrated route would cost by far more then the Modular route. Substantial savings on accommodations and meals. No exchange rate fluctuation. High quality training by specialist organisations in their field. Planned study program for the duration of the course. Fully JAA approved. Flight training takes place in Maltese and Italian airspace. The modules can be taken at different training organisations if required. Can be structured to individual’s specific needs and time scale

Ab-Initio ATPL Modular Training System The Ab-Initio ATPL Modular Training System is designed to take the potential professional pilot with no flying experience through the training required to gain their CPL/IR with ATPL theoretical knowledge credits in approximately 65 weeks. It effectively takes the student through the modular route to a Commercial Pilot License and includes all the flying hours between modules. In order to expedite the course the first module, the PPL training is conducted in eight weeks (weather permitting) consisting of: Ground Theory, 12 sessions of Radio communications and 45 hours of flight training. When the student completes the JAA- PPL, then one will proceed on a structured hour building and other Advance Ground and Flight training. EPA provides JAA- ATPL distance learning covering all 14 ATPL Theoretical Subjects. A computer based training system with access to tutors supports the distance-learning phase. The course is taken in 3 modules each incorporating a distance-learning phase and 3 sessions of 7 days of classroom study to brush up courses prior to sitting the ATPL theoretical examinations, at the Malta Department of Civil Aviation. ♦ ♦

The CPL modular The aim of the CPL modular course is to train PPL (A) holders to a standard that will enable them to pass the skill test for the Commercial Pilot’s License. The module consists of flying training in general handling, instrument flying and navigation. The majority of the training is carried out in a single engine aircraft, but at least 20 hours plus the skill test will be carried out in a complex aircraft having a variable pitch propeller, certified for at least 4 persons and retractable landing gear. ♦ ♦

At European Pilot Academy we utilise the twin engine Piper Seneca II to fulfill this requirement. The Seneca II is a very stable training aircraft. It is not too fast for visual navigation, has a Turbo Charged aspirated engines that are easy to manage, is cost effective and has the advantage of slaving HSI/RMI. The remainder of the flying training required on the module is carried out in the ZLIN Z-142 (Full Aerobatic). ♦ ♦

♦ ♦ ♦ Instrument Rating Modular. The aim of the Instrument Rating (IR) modular course is to train PPL (A) or CPL (A) holders to a standard in accordance with the JAA - IR skill test requirements and operate aeroplanes under instrument flight rules and in instrument meteorological conditions. The IR module consists of Instrument Flight Training in the ZLIN Z-142 single engine and the Piper P34-200 T Seneca II for the multi-engine IR portion. The Piper P34-200 T Seneca II is approved for flight in icing condition.
